Nadia Marks was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, but grew up in north
London. When she arrived in England with her family at the age
of twelve, she spoke no English and had never been outside her
own country.
Nadia studied graphic design at Harrow School of Art for four
years. Her family was always planning to return to Cyprus when
she completed her studies but while at art school Nadia met fellow
art student Graham Marks, got married, and decided to stay in
England. Her first job was in the art department of the Readers
Digest and she went on to work on women’s magazines. Over
the next twenty years Nadia worked on many mainstream magazines,
starting with Cosmopolitan, and she has been instrumental in launching
two of the most successful women’s magazines in the UK –
Company and She. Nadia has worked, and continues to work, closely
with some of the world’s leading photographers, like David
Bailey and Mario Testino.
Recently Nadia has made the transition from creative director
to writer/journalist and now works on a freelance basis for many
leading national newspapers and magazines. She writes mainly about
art, culture, travel, social issues and does celebrity interviews.
Her work has appeared in The Independent on Sunday, The Mail on
Sunday (Night and Day section), The Guardian, Sunday Express,
In Style magazine, Red, The Royal Photographic Society Journal
and she is a regular contributor to the leading Greek Sunday newspaper
Vima.
Nadia wrote the immensely popular Making Sense. She lives in
north London with her husband, Graham, and two sons, Leo and Pablo. |
