Tina Radziszewicz grew up in Stockport with her
Polish dad, bossy elder sister and a houseful of dogs. The best
thing about school, she says, was being able to chase boys all
day with her mates.
After A levels, Tina spent a year working
in a hospital lab growing bugs from patients’ bodily fluids
in petri dishes, after which she took a degree in Psychology
at Manchester Metropolitan
University. Stints as a residential social worker and bookseller
followed before Tina moved south to study at the London College
of Printing with a view to landing a job on a teen mag.
A year’s
experience as a finance magazine production editor gave Tina
the nerve to ring Just 17 and offer her services as a
sub editor (red pen wielding know-all who frets over other writers’ comma
usage). From there she moved into writing and sub editing for
various national magazines, from Smash Hits! and more to Bella
and TV Quick.
“People have always come to me with their problems and,
whilst working on a teen magazine called BIG!, I wound up editing
their celebrity-hosted
problem pages,” says Tina. “Each fortnight, different
celebs would answer readers’ problem letters. Then in 1995,
bliss mag invited me to be their sex and relationships agony
aunt. At last I could have my photo at the head of an advice
column instead
of the likes of Ant and Dec’s.”
Tina has used her
understanding of what teenage girls want to know about sex and
relationships as the basis for her first book,
The
Love Guru’s Guide to Sex. She threatens to write lots more
and is currently working on a novel.
Her desire to help people
fulfil their potential led Tina to train as a psychotherapist
via an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling.
As well as being a bliss agony aunt, she also runs her own
psychotherapy practice. Tina lives in London with her husband
and son.
